If you are new to Living Hope Church, you probably have a few questions.
Here are a few answers to get you started and if you have any more questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch with us.
When and where do you meet?
We gather every Sunday at 10:00AM in the gymnasium of Queneesh Elementary School, 2345 Mission Road, Courtenay, BC.
What should I wear?
Clothes are a fantastic start! You will see most people wearing business casual or casual clothing, but don’t worry too much about what you wear - you are welcome no matter what kind of clothes you have on!
Where do I park and where do I go when I arrive?
There is a parking lot right in front and on either side of the school building. Once you have parked, our main entry way is through the front doors of the school where you will meet someone on our greeting team ready to welcome you in. After passing the greeting tables, to the right around the corner you can help yourself to a cup of tea or coffee before you make your way through the double gym doors to our main gathering space.
I won't know anyone. Where will I sit?
You can sit anywhere you like! You might not know anyone when you arrive, but part of our desire as the Church is to welcome each other as Christ welcomes us. This means that we trust someone will approach you if you are new and welcome you in. If you want to touch base with someone before you make your first visit, feel free to contact our office and we would love to connect with you beforehand.
What is the service like?
At Living Hope you will find Scripture, prayer, song and liturgy are all used as means to turn us toward Jesus Christ and the beautiful Gospel story He invites us to enter into. We begin our services with corporate worship before the service host goes up to welcome everyone from the front. After the welcome there is continued worship in song along with our children’s time, the collection of the offering, and the reading of Scripture before the sermon. We move into corporate prayer in response to hearing the Word of God preached and always end with a sending benediction from Scripture.
What about my kids?
Children are a valued part of our community and we love to have them with us on a Sunday morning! Right when you enter the gym there is a small children’s area set up at the back of the gym where you’ll find padded mats for little ones to play on. For the first part of the service the kids are in the gymnasium then later welcomed up to the front for the children’s portion of the service. When the kids time is over they are prayed for and dismissed to their Sunday school classes. There will be teachers and assistants to help you and your child find your way! We have a nursery (0-2), a preschool class (3-5), Theo’s Place (6-8), and PT9-13 (9-13). Click here for more information.
Every 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month during the Living Hope Sunday morning service, youth (Gr. 7-12) meet in the staff room to engage with issues about life and God! Youth leave the service at the same time as the younger kids are dismissed after Kid's Time.
So you meet in a gym, but you also have an office?
We do gather on Sundays in the Queneesh gymnasium but during the week our office space is open if you want to drop in for a visit! Our address is 2364 Rosewall Crescent, Courtenay (we are tucked in right beside the Triple Heat dance studio in Tin Town) and there is generally someone there from 9:00AM-2:00PM, Tuesday-Friday. The first lovely face you usually see is our Church Administrator, Chris. Consider calling ahead if you are planning to drop something off or if you need to know for certain that someone will be there before you arrive.
Are you part of a specific church denomination?
We are a part of The Christian and Missionary Alliance in Canada. You can read our statement of faith here - and if you have any questions about what it all means, contact the office and we would love to connect you with someone to talk with.
How can I get connected?
If you are looking to join what God is doing in and through His people at Living Hope there are multiple ways to get connected. There are many areas where you can serve, several Hope Group communities you can join, and ways that you can respond to what God is calling you to by joining into our covenant community at Living Hope Church.
